Sadly there is - as far as commonplace medicine goes - very little knowledge of what causes tinnitus and doctors have dismissed me multiple time with a consternated shrug.

Exactly, that’s what my doctor did then asked if there’s anything else otherwise it’s 30€ the visit. Worst investment ever.

Opiates allegedly work for tinnitus, I know two people who were prescribed it. If you're ever prescribed any, remember to log how your tinnitus is.
