I think it’s the same feeling that every generation experiences when there’s a cultural shift. For example, people during the Industrial Revolution weren’t any less horrified by the machines, see Luddites. But I think this feeling is related to adjusting to the loss of a familiar world, and using humor or insight to adapt to a new one, so it’s not about technological changes per se. To me this phenomena is an extension of surrealism and absurdism.
