Agreed, we should push back when companies try to water down the meaning of open source.
I've been tracking a related problem, the re-licensing of open source software, which is a whole other layer to worry about. Projects like TensorFlow[1] show warning signs that the owner could rug-pull the community and switch to closed source. Google has too much centralized control over the copyright of the source code.
