If you're married and have kids you can just take them out of day care and be a stay-at-home parent for 6 months or a year.

I guess it depends on what kinda person you are, but spending time with my kids is such a fulfilling activity that I wouldn't trade it for cheap cocktails in Thailand.

With current tech salaries you can lead pretty much any life you want.
