I'm surprised IRC is still a thing with the rise of Matrix, IMHO a modern replacement.


Not being replaced by modern replacements is pretty much IRC's thing.

Edit: I guess https://xkcd.com/1782/ makes that point better.


I think IRC is nearing the end of its usefulness, but I am under no illusion over why it's still in use, and I do not believe a "modern replacement" to be automatically better than other options.
