>it is crazy to think that the world is spending thousands of billions on AI stuffs, but still we haven't yet any affordable big size epaper display.

why is that crazy? the demand for big epaper isn't really there, but demand for AI has been pretty clear

Maybe once AI is doing everybody's jobs we'll all have free time for giant epaper dashboard nook projects.

Later: ohno

>The problem I find with it is that it's such a monoculture. Everyone is copying everyone else.

congratulations on discovering mimesis

deep meta, pun intended?

it turns out it's really hard to get a man to fish with a pole when you don't teach them how to use the reel

In regards to copilot, they’ve also been led on a fishing expedition to the middle of a desert

If AGI is coming, won't there just be autofishers and no one will ever have to fish again, completely devaluing one's fishing knowledge and the effort put in to learn it?

It’s not a great analogy but...

“Autofishers” are large boats with nets that bring in fish in vast quantities that you then buy at a wholesale market, a supermarket a bit later, or they flash freeze and sell it to you over the next 6-9 months.

Yet there’s still a thriving industry selling fishing gear. Because people like to fish. And because you can rarely buy fish as fresh as what you catch yourself.

Again, it’s not a great analogy, but I dunno. I doubt AGI, if it does come, will end up working the way people think it will.

> If AGI is coming

spoiler, it's not

Evey now model is better than a previous one. When and why it is going to stop? Current models are limited by DC capacity which is rapidly expanded. Genuinely curious, I don't know the answer.

I'm not sure if this was the intention of the analogy, but fishing poles don't have reels.

Or give them a stick with twine and a plastic fork as a hook, as is the case with Copilot.

we're finally upon the year of the linux wristwatch

leave it to a three letter agency to use a pre-existing acronym for something pretty different

very excited for cerebras, hopefully nvidia/amd will have less AI sales and bring back more consumer options when they realize they have abandoned/neglected the market that made them who they are

Nvidia bought groq, so they might be working on their own answer to low-latency serving. (I found this good explanation of groq compared to TPU [1])

i know it's hyperbole but come on

not all em-dash users are AI!

definitely, this is going to hurt those over at /r/datahoarder
