You mean the application? They need to distribute the code if they provide applications based on the code.

I think they (businesses) often pick OpenSSL exactly because it's not GPL licensed so it's kind of chicken and egg

So yeah. Here's what me thinks...

I use Linux for like 5 years exclusively now. But I don't go around trying to argue how great it is or something. It is great for me, so much is clear. I'm just very happy that I am rid of all this proprietary BS.

Why do people write blog posts about such topics? I don't get it. It must be hugely boring to write them. And the shitstorm that ensues is probably even worse. Apple fanboys vs. MS fanboys vs. Google proponents vs. C64 veterans vs. Amiga shitheads vs. Atari nuts vs. Gravis Ultrasound!

My car is better than yours!

I've got only just a few years left (maybe) to dig around earth. I write quick stupid comments like this one to let you all know that you suck big time.

You should really think about it. Do you want to waste your time reading this crap? Isn't life more than that?

Ok, spock. Enough tricks played. Let them alone. Good night!

I've love to read your opinion on Linux.

> so I asked on #emacs on Freenode and got nothing but abuse.

I checked my logs. It was one guy that was abusive. Everyone else was friendly and helpful.

So you doom the whole Emacs community because of one user on #emacs the one time you were there?

Weird experience you had there. I have been to many IRC channels on Freenode and found pretty much all of them abusive and unfriendly with the big exception being #emacs, where people seem to be more open and tolerant, also very helpful.

I would say you had bad luck and met an ass (which could happen as anyone can go to #emacs and rant around)

it won't die. it will be used for years by millions of users. that some company stops issuing security updates for a software means nothing to most users. it probably will even make them more happy because they are not nagged by update messages all the time.

People can still use it. But it's dead, insecure, and unsupported. Just like Windows 3.x, 95, NT, 98, 98se, 2000, etc. People still use all of those, too.

Yep. PHP 5.1 and 5.2 are still widely deployed :(

if you have sshd on 22 you get 1000 hack attempts per day. if you move it somewhere else you probably get none the whole day.

the chance to get hacked is way higher. why would you not want to lower the risk?

I switched to Dvorak a few months ago. It's much better than I expected. The switch was painful and it took like 3 months to get fast enough.

Compared to Qwerty writing Dvorak is so much easier on the hands. I would say the strain is reduced by 50% at least and it's potentially faster to type (less movement, less way).

I will never switch back to Qwerty unless someone forces me to do so.
